UPDATE - follow-up to 54 Indian researchers receive Careers360 Faculty Research Awards at IRIS 2026: Fifty-four researchers from public and private higher education institutions received honours at the third edition of the Careers360 Faculty Research Awards in New Delhi. The event took place during the India Research and Impact Summit 2026 earlier this month.

Winners and Fields

The awardees come from twenty-seven academic disciplines across public and private colleges. In twenty-six fields, one researcher from a public school and one from a private school won. Both winners in one remaining field came from public institutions. The selected fields include agricultural and biological sciences, arts and humanities, chemistry, computer science, economics, engineering, environmental science, medicine, neuroscience, physics, psychology, social sciences, and veterinary sciences.

Selection and Institutions

Organisers picked the winners based on their research papers, citations, and H-index scores from academic indices. Award recipients represent many major schools, such as the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, Indian Institute of Management Mumbai, All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, University of Hyderabad, Indian Council of Agricultural Research bodies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Symbiosis International, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.

Summit Discussions

The summit also featured panel talks on problems facing Indian research. Speakers and panellists debated whether funding, staff shortages, institutional rules, or lack of incentives hold back research work. They also discussed ways to build better ties between industry and universities, how to measure the real impact of research on public policy and business, and whether university rankings use fair standards.

Keynote Speakers

Prof Abhay Karandikar delivered a keynote speech at the event. He serves as a member of NITI Aayog and formerly worked as secretary of the Department of Science and Technology. Sribharat Mathukumilli gave an impact keynote address. He is a Member of the Lok Sabha and serves as president of GITAM Deemed-to-be University.

Context

Academic awards and summits bring attention to the quality of scholarly work happening across Indian universities. Events like this highlight how citation metrics and research output are tracked in both government-run and private higher education institutions.
