Tamil director Shankar recently shared his review of Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, calling actor Yash's portrayal of Ravana a lovable villain. The film hit screens on November 5 ahead of Diwali and has collected ₹ 112.90 crore net in India alongside ₹ 221.05 crore worldwide in its first two days.

Shankar's Review

Writing on his X account, Shankar described the movie as a spectacle with visuals he had never seen before in Indian cinema. He credited producer Namit Malhotra and director Nitesh Tiwari for taking Indian cinema to international standards. He also sent best wishes to lead actors Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi while praising the entire team.

Cast and Crew

Ramayana is directed by Nitesh Tiwari, who co-wrote the screenplay with Shridhar Raghavan, and is produced by Namit Malhotra and Yash. Ranbir plays Ram, Sai plays Sita, and Yash plays Ravana. The supporting cast features Ravi Dubey as Lakshmana, Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanaka, Arun Govil as Dasharatha, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, Shobana as Kaikashi, and Kajal Aggarwal as Mandodari.

Plot and Box Office

The first part covers Ravana's backstory up to the abduction of Sita following a fight with Jatayu, whose voice is provided by Anupam Kher. It also shows Ram's childhood, marriage to Sita, exile, and vow to bring Sita back, while ending with a tease of Sunny Deol as Hanuman. The film released in Hindi and all South Indian languages across 2D, 3D and other formats.

Context

Major film releases during festive periods like Diwali often see strong initial box office openings in India due to holidays. High-budget mythological adaptations frequently draw public attention and critiques over how traditional epics are interpreted on screen.
