Actor Adam Driver will not return for the upcoming reboot of the television series "Girls," confirming he has no plans to join the project during a recent interview.

Cast and Production

News of the new show broke in mid-October, and creator and star Lena Dunham is set to return as Hannah Horvath. Other returning co-stars include Allison Williams as Marnie Michaels, Jemima Kirke as Jessa Johansson, Zosia Mamet as Shoshanna Shapiro, and Andrew Rannells as Elijah Krantz. The revival will run for five episodes on HBO, and production is scheduled to start in 2027.

Career Background

Driver played Hannah's boyfriend on the original show, which gave him a major career breakout. He has since appeared in three "Star Wars" movies as Kylo Ren and worked with directors such as Noah Baumbach, Ridley Scott, Michael Mann, and Jim Jarmusch.

Memoir Details

In her recent memoir titled "Famesick," Dunham wrote about her difficult relationship with Driver during their time on the show, describing him at times as short-tempered and verbally aggressive while also noting he could be protective and loving. Dunham also shared that Driver told her he would always love her as they said goodbye after the final episode.

Context

Television revivals and reboots often bring back original casts to attract viewers who watched the initial runs years earlier. Premium cable networks frequently use limited episode runs to gauge audience interest in returning to popular past franchises.
