Dhanush apologises as ticket‑holding fans turned away from OM audio launch
Reported by Harshdeep Singh (Fact-Checker) · Indian Express - Entertainment ·
Dhanush apologised on X after thousands of ticket‑holding fans were barred from entering the audio launch of his upcoming film OM at Sairam Engineering College in Chennai.
What Happened
The launch took place on Friday evening and featured the film’s cast, including Dhanush, Mammootty, Sai Pallavi and Sree Leela. The crowd swelled far beyond the college’s capacity, prompting police deployed for security to stop further entry, even for fans with valid passes. Many supporters who had travelled long distances waited for hours before being turned away at the gates. Videos of the scene and complaints spread across social media platforms.
Reaction
Dhanush posted a message in Tamil on X, saying it pained him that fans with tickets had to go home, that he would not point fingers, and that he took full responsibility for the mishap. He pledged to ensure such an incident does not happen again.
Background
OM is directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, who previously helmed Amaran (2024). The film stars Dhanush, Sai Pallavi, Mammootty and Sree Leela, with Naseeruddin Shah making his Tamil debut; music is composed by Sai Abhyankkar. The same venue hosted the audio launch of Scene on 31 October. OM is slated for worldwide theatrical release on 20 November.
Context
Large fan gatherings for South Indian film promotions often outgrow venue limits, leading police to enforce entry bans for safety reasons.
