PVR Inox Pictures has taken over the distribution rights for the Shraddha Kapoor-starrer period drama Eetha after Jio Studios exited the project a week prior. Trade sources indicate the deal is worth 80 crores on an advance basis, while some reports had suggested 90 crores.

Industry Impact

Dinesh Vijan and director Laxman Utekar prepared a strong trailer for the film, which releases in cinemas on December 4. PVR Inox reportedly paid this high amount partly to build a long-term relationship with Maddock Films for upcoming releases like Shakti Shalini starring Aneet Padda, Stree 3, and the Vicky Kaushal-starrer Mahavatar.

The Box Office Clash

Plans for a solo release changed when Salman Khan decided to release his war saga Maatrubhumi on the same date of December 4, creating a box office clash with Eetha. Sources state that Jio Studios remains confident about securing a strong release against the PVR-distributed film, expecting a civil and respectful clash that can accommodate both titles.

Context

Major film distribution deals often involve advance payments and long-term studio partnerships to secure big release slates. Clashes between high-profile movies during major release windows are a common occurrence in the Hindi film industry.
