UPDATE - follow-up to Andhra Pradesh MPTC, ZPTC election results LIVE: TDP leads in multiple Zilla, Mandal Parishads: Counting of votes for 577 Zilla and 7,707 Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies began at 8 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2026. Authorities arranged 365 counting centres across the State, deploying nearly 19,885 police officers to prevent clashes between rival political party cadres.

Incidents and Updates

In East Godavari district, 28-year-old Jana Sena Party MPTC candidate Garapati Divya died of a cardiac arrest hours before vote counting started. Separately, journalist Chintakayala Giri suffered a fatal heart attack while covering updates at the Narsipatnam counting centre in Anakapalli district, exposing a lack of basic ambulance facilities on site. State Election Commissioner Anil Chandra Punetha stated that decisions regarding elections for 23 municipalities will follow soon, as those urban local bodies were delayed due to administrative and legal issues.

District-Wise Progress

District Collector Dr. S. Venkateswar reported smooth and peaceful counting in his district, with MPTC results expected by 2 p.m. and ZPTC results by 6 p.m. Early returns from Kurnool showed ruling TDP candidates winning seats including Erragudi, M Kottala, and Dibbanakal. TDP also secured early leads in postal ballots across Vizianagaram. Meanwhile, both TDP and YSRCP awaited results in the Kotia group of villages in Parvatipuram Manyam district despite strong objections from Odisha regarding the border polls.

Context

Local body elections in Andhra Pradesh involve massive administrative coordination across thousands of constituencies and hundreds of counting venues. Security is typically heavily enforced during these exercises due to intense political competition at the grassroots level between major parties like the TDP and YSRCP.
