State Election Commissioner Anil Chandra Punetha and top officials are monitoring the counting process.

Security And Incidents

Authorities deployed nearly 19,885 police officers to maintain security and prevent clashes between rival political parties. In East Godavari district, 28-year-old Jana Sena Party MPTC candidate Garapati Divya suffered a cardiac arrest and died hours before counting started. Separately, Chintakayala Giri, a journalist reporting for Andhra Jyothy in Nathavaram mandal, suffered a heart attack and collapsed at the Narsipatnam counting centre in Anakapalli district, where the incident raised concerns due to a lack of basic ambulance facilities.

Results And Reactions

The Telugu Desam Party has secured wins in 4 Mandal Parishads in Guntur and leads in 60 MPTCs and 6 ZPTCs in the same district. In Kurnool district, early MPTC winners include TDP candidates Lakshmanna in Erragudi, Gummala Keerthi in M Kottala, and H Padma in Dibbanakal. In Vizianagaram district, TDP leads in 14 of 20 ZPTCs following postal ballot counting, with 103 candidates awaiting results for 27 ZPTC seats and 1,066 candidates contesting across 438 MPTC segments. Meanwhile, YSRCP leader and former Minister R.K. Roja broke down emotionally after her party's MPTC candidate in Vijayapuram mandal lost to a TDP nominee by a margin of three votes following a recount.

Local Administration

Bapatla District Collector Dr. Vinod Kumar V. inspected counting at the Government Polytechnic College in Repalle. District Collector Dr. S. Venkateswar and SP L. Subbarayudu stated that counting in their district is proceeding smoothly, with results for 55 to 60 MPTCs completed by midday. Counting is also underway across all 11 mandals of Alluri Sitharama Raju district using 298 tables and 1,200 personnel. In Parvatipuram Manyam district, both TDP and YSRCP await results in the Kotia group of villages in Salur mandal despite an objection from Odisha regarding the polls. State Election Commissioner Anil Chandra Punetha also announced that a decision on elections for 23 municipalities will be taken soon, after administrative and legal issues delayed them from the November 1 polls.

Context

Local body elections like MPTC and ZPTC polls form the foundational tier of rural governance in the state, managing local development and welfare schemes at the mandal and district levels. Vote counting for such large-scale rural polls requires extensive administrative mobilization, security deployment, and strict adherence to election commission guidelines to handle thousands of local constituencies simultaneously.
