Veteran actor Nana Patekar passed away at the age of seventy-five after suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa. Dr Shekhar Salkar from Manipal Hospital stated that the actor was found unresponsive at his flat and rushed to a nearby medical facility. Medical staff spent about forty-five minutes trying to revive him, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Authorities recorded his time of death at approximately 5:10 am, noting that his heart showed no electrical activity throughout the resuscitation process. Police registered a medico-legal case, and officials planned to perform an autopsy.

Final Public Appearance

Four days prior to his passing, the actor made a public appearance in Dona Paula on October 4 to attend the Samraat Club International installation ceremony. Dressed simply in a white kurta and scarf, he addressed the audience and reflected on human mortality, noting that life is short and no one can guarantee their presence tomorrow. During the same speech, he fondly remembered former Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar as a close friend, praised leaders who dedicate themselves fully to public service, and discussed the importance of peaceful protest and maintaining basic decency when disagreeing with political figures.

Cinematic Legacy

Born in 1951, the artist established himself through intense roles in Marathi and Hindi cinema, starting with his acting debut in the 1978 Marathi movie Gaman. Over a career spanning decades, he delivered memorable performances in acclaimed projects such as Parinda, Prahar, Angaar, Krantiveer, Tiranga, Khamoshi, and Ab Tak Chhappan. While known primarily for serious drama and complex characters, he also connected with younger viewers through comedy films like Welcome and the Housefull series. He remained active in his later years, participating in Housefull 5, appearing as a police officer in Vishal Bhardwaj's O' Romeo, and taking on a cameo role in Subedar.

Context

Cardiac arrest occurs when the heart suddenly stops beating, cutting off blood flow to the brain and other vital organs, which requires immediate emergency medical intervention. Sudden health emergencies among public figures often prompt public discussions around mortality, routine medical checkups, and the unpredictable nature of health. Actors with long-standing careers in the film industry frequently balance active professional schedules with public engagements well into their later years.
