BMW has officially revealed the iX4, a new coupe-style electric SUV that joins the brand's growing lineup as the third vehicle built on its 800-volt platform. The global launch is scheduled for March, with initial sales opening in two primary variants known as the 40 xDrive and the 50 xDrive, while a top-tier M60 xDrive model will join the family at a later date.

Powertrains And Performance

The entry-level 40 xDrive features an 82.6kWh battery pack that delivers a WLTP driving range between 526km and 638km, alongside a dual-motor setup pushing out 374hp and 520Nm of torque. It accelerates from zero to 100kph in 5.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 200kph. The mid-level 50 xDrive steps up to a 108.7kWh battery offering an extended range of 680km to 828km, paired with a dual-motor layout generating 469hp and 645Nm for a 4.9-second sprint to 100kph. At the top of the range, the M60 xDrive utilizes the larger battery to produce 603hp and 875Nm, clearing the 0-100kph test in just 3.9 seconds while delivering a rated range of 777km.

Design And Charging

Measuring 4,782mm long, 1,895mm wide, and 1,595mm high with a 2,897mm wheelbase, the new model sits slightly shorter than its standard sibling while adopting a steeply-raked roofline, 20-inch alloy wheels as standard, clear-lens tail-lamps, and a bootlid spoiler. When plugged into a DC fast charger, both the 40 and 50 versions support charging speeds up to 300kW and 400kW respectively, taking 21 minutes to replenish from 10 to 80 percent.

Context

This vehicle release forms part of the German manufacturer's wider rollout of next-generation battery-powered vehicles designed to compete in the expanding premium electric vehicle market. Coupe-style SUVs typically sacrifice a small amount of rear headroom and cargo capacity in exchange for a sportier, more aerodynamic exterior profile.
