BMW has revealed the new iX4 as the coupe-SUV version of its iX3 electric vehicle. Built on the brand's 800-volt Neue Klasse architecture, the iX4 shares its battery options of 82.6kWh and 108.7kWh with its sibling.
Design and Variants
The iX4 looks identical to the iX3 up to the C-pillar, where its roofline slopes down sharply. It is 40mm shorter than the iX3. The 40 xDrive and 50 xDrive models come with standard 20-inch alloy wheels and a bootlid spoiler. The high-performance M60 xDrive features larger 21-inch alloys, a bigger twin-ridge spoiler, yellow daytime running lights, unique lighting signatures, an M-spec steering wheel, and a black interior finish. According to Autocar UK, the M Sport trim is standard across the lineup, and the M60 also includes sports suspension with adaptive dampers.
Performance and Practicality
All versions use a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain, producing power outputs ranging from 374hp to 603hp. Autocar UK notes that the entry-level 40 offers 369bhp with a 396-mile range and starts at Β£60,170, while the 50 delivers 463bhp with a 514-mile range starting at Β£66,075. The M60 derivative pushes out 604bhp with a 483-mile range. Inside, the layout matches the regular SUV with a 17.9-inch infotainment touchscreen and a full-width Panoramic Vision display. The sloping roof reduces rear headroom, and the 490-litre boot is 30 litres smaller than the iX3 version.
Context
Automakers frequently expand their electric vehicle lineups by introducing coupe-SUV body styles alongside traditional utility vehicles to offer buyers a sportier exterior design. The Neue Klasse platform represents BMW's dedicated next-generation electric vehicle architecture designed to support various models and advanced battery tech.
