Head coach Khalid Jamil has left out former captain and veteran goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu from the national team. His omission follows a poor performance in India's zero to four loss against Brazil. Key defender Anwar Ali also misses out because of a grade one hamstring tear. Medical staff expect the East Bengal defender to stay away from the pitch for over a month. Midfielders Lalengmawia Ralte, known as Apuia, and Mohammed Sanan are also out due to injuries.

Squad Changes

Three players from Naushad Moosa's SAFF Championship squad in Dhaka will join the tour party instead. Bijoy Varghese, Muhammad Suhail, and Liston Colaco are leaving the tournament to link up with the New Zealand-bound group. Meanwhile, Farukh Choudhary, Noufal PN, and Hmingthanmawia Ralte leave the SAFF camp to rejoin their club, Mumbai City FC. Ronney Kharbudon misses the Dhaka trip because of an injury as well. The team gathers in Bengaluru on Saturday, trains on Sunday, and flies out to Auckland late Sunday night.

Match Schedule

India plays its first match against the All Whites on November 12 at the Go Media Stadium in Auckland starting at 11:30 am Indian Standard Time. The second fixture takes place on November 15 at the One New Zealand Stadium in Christchurch at 8:30 am Indian Standard Time. Coach Khalid Jamil noted that New Zealand plays in the World Cup and poses a tough challenge away from home. He stressed that these games offer a vital chance to test discipline and get better as a group.

Context

International friendlies during official windows give national teams a chance to try new player combinations outside of major regional tournaments. Squad rotations of this kind happen often when key players pick up injuries or need a break after poor form. Facing strong overseas opponents helps coaching staff prepare their squads for upcoming continental qualifiers.
