Bill Skarsgård Says He Was Never Considered for James Bond Role
Reported by Aakash Bora (Staff Writer) · Variety ·
Swedish actor Bill Skarsgård confirmed he was never asked to audition for the upcoming James Bond movie. Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast hosted by Josh Horowitz, Skarsgard stated that he was not even part of the casting mix for the role. He joked that producers may have avoided considering a Swedish actor for the famous British secret agent. While many British and Australian actors have been linked to the part, Skarsgård admitted he has no interest in committing to a decade-long franchise. Instead of playing 007, Skarsgård expressed openness to playing a Bond villain for a single film, similar to Mads Mikkelsen's approach. The actor is well-known for playing dark characters, including Pennywise in the It films, Count Orlok in Nosferatu, Eric Draven in The Crow, and Marquis Vincent Bisset de Gramont in John Wick: Chapter 4. However, he noted that he is now very selective about villain roles and would only accept a part if it felt completely original compared to his past work.
Context
Casting for the James Bond film franchise often generates intense global media speculation and rumors regarding which actor will take over the iconic role next. Established film franchises frequently cast notable international stars as villains to oppose the main hero, while keeping the central character role open for extended multi-picture deals.
