Buyback Details

Kia India has expanded its Assured Buyback Programme to cover its petrol, diesel, hybrid, and electric vehicle line-up. Announced on October 9, the plan gives eligible buyers an assured residual value of up to 75% for traditional internal combustion engine models and up to 70% for electric vehicles after three years. The offer applies to vehicles purchased through participating authorised dealerships, with the final percentage depending on the selected plan and specific terms.

Plans and Models

The expanded scheme covers several models including the Sonet, Syros, New Seltos, Carens, Carens Clavis, and Sorento across various fuel types. Buyers of traditional engine cars can pick ownership tenures of three, four, or five years. Electric vehicle buyers can choose either a three-year or four-year plan. Customers can also select annual mileage options of 10,000 km, 15,000 km, or 20,000 km, with a maximum total coverage limit of 1,00,000 km for a five-year plan. An independent programme partner administers the buyback process, while Kia assists customers through its dealer network.

Sales Performance

Atul Sood, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Kia India, noted that buyers want more certainty regarding future car values and easier upgrades. The buyback rollout follows strong sales for the company, including a record monthly total of 32,017 units in September 2026. This figure marked a 41.04% increase compared to September 2025 and a 10.24% rise over August 2026. Kia also recorded 89,259 units sold in the July to September quarter, while total sales for the first nine months of 2026 reached 2,53,008 units.

Context

Assured buyback schemes are commonly used by car manufacturers to reduce buyer hesitation by guaranteeing a minimum resale price at the end of a loan or ownership term. This financial safety net often encourages customers to upgrade to newer models sooner than they otherwise might. The approach helps brands build long-term customer loyalty in a competitive automobile market.
