Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke left Mumbai for New Delhi on Saturday to stage a protest at Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Before boarding his flight, Dipke asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had accepted defeat even before the agitation began, pointing to a heavy security clampdown and train cancellations in the national capital.

Detention and Clampdown

According to the Hindustan Times, Germany-based YouTuber Dhruv Rathee was detained at his Gurugram residence on Saturday morning after police urged him not to travel to Delhi for the unauthorized demonstration. Delhi has deployed over 40,000 police and Central Armed Police Forces personnel, along with barricades and spike strips. The CJP strongly condemned Rathee's detention through social media and a WhatsApp statement, demanding the immediate release of him and hundreds of other held citizens.

Background

The proposed demonstration targets the Chief Election Commissioner over alleged voter-list manipulation during the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and changes to Form 6 for voter registration. Delhi Police have denied permission for the protest due to security considerations and enforced prohibitory orders in the New Delhi area.

Context

Prohibitory orders and large-scale security deployments are standard measures used by law enforcement agencies when handling mass political gatherings that lack official permits. Electoral roll revisions and voter registration forms fall under the direct administrative purview of the Election Commission of India.
