The Renault Kiger is priced from Rs 5.81 lakh to Rs 10.40 lakh, ex-showroom. It is built on the CMF-A+ platform, sharing its base with the Triber MPV and the Nissan Magnite. Buyers can pick from two engine choices and three gearbox options.
Pros
The 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine makes 100hp. It puts out 152Nm of torque when paired with the CVT and 160Nm with the 5-speed manual gearbox. The CVT variant avoids the usual rubber-band effect and delivers a linear pull past the 5,000rpm mark. Drivers can choose between Eco, Normal, and Sport drive modes. The car also offers a smooth ride at higher speeds. Inside, the cabin features a two-tone theme, contrast stitching, and embroidered Renault diamond logos on the front seats. Storage spaces include a 405-litre boot, large door pockets, two gloveboxes, and twin phone trays. The front and rear seats offer good legroom and headroom, while the climate control dials stand out with tactile feel and crisp displays.
Cons
The Kiger misses out on a powered sunroof. Its 8.0-inch touchscreen is smaller than rival units, features low resolution, and comes with thick bezels. Cabin insulation is another drawback. Passengers can easily hear noises from the engine, suspension, brakes, and even the rear wiper motor, despite Renault adding thicker carpets and better sound proofing.
Context
Compact cars in this price range often balance cost by offering strong engine and space options while cutting back on top-tier cabin tech or sound insulation. Vehicle platforms like the CMF-A+ allow car makers to build multiple models using shared parts to keep costs down.
