Box Office Milestone

Ajay Devgn's crime thriller Drishyam 3 is setting new box office records and has now crossed the Rs 286 crore mark in India net collections by its ninth day. The film earned Rs 26.50 crore on its second Saturday, driven by strong weekend demand. This latest milestone allows the movie to officially surpass Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, which previously held the record as Ajay Devgn's highest-grossing film with a lifetime net collection of Rs 279.59 crore.

Opening Week Surge

The film began its run with advance bookings opening on September 27, pulling in Rs 27 crore before release. On day one, net collections across India reached Rs 66.75 crore, marking the third biggest opening ever for a Hindi film and the highest of Ajay Devgn's career. After earning Rs 53.50 crore on Saturday and Rs 61 crore on Sunday, the movie saw an expected drop on Monday with Rs 21 crore. It stayed steady through the week, crossing the Rs 200 crore mark in five days and finishing its first week at Rs 245.50 crore.

Cast and Crew

Directed by Abhishek Pathak, the film brings back familiar characters including Vijay Salgaonkar played by Ajay Devgn, alongside Tabu, Shriya Saran, Rajat Kapoor, Ishita Dutta, Mrunal Jadhav, and Kamlesh Sawant. Saurabh Shukla also returns in a cameo appearance. The project is co-written by Abhishek Pathak, Aamil Keeyan Khan, and Parveez Shaikh, and is produced by Alok Jain, Ajit Andhare, Kumar Mangat Pathak, and Abhishek Pathak under the backing of Star Studio18 and Panorama Studios.

Context

Major film franchises often see explosive box office growth when they build on the loyal audience of earlier successful parts. The crime thriller genre thrives on word-of-mouth promotion as viewers discover plot twists, helping movies maintain steady collections even after their opening weekend. Hindi cinema releases during periods with a clear weekend runway frequently capitalise on uninterrupted ticket sales before upcoming festival holidays.
