Jyotika says her marriage to actor Suriya works because they share respect, appreciation, space and friendship. Speaking to Galatta India, the actress explained that when a couple respects and appreciates each other, gives each other room and nurtures a true friendship, love follows naturally. She added that appreciation and respect must come from the man, noting that most women already give respect and love, so male‑side respect carries special weight. Jyotika paused her acting career after marrying Suriya on September 11 2006 in Chennai to raise their children, daughter Diya (born 2006) and son Dev (born 2010). After a seven‑year break she returned to Tamil cinema, most recently appearing in the film System. She said Suriya has been supportive throughout, allowing her to start or stop work at will and moving with her to Mumbai after the pandemic to be close to her ageing parents. The couple, who dated for several years before marriage, recently renewed their vows at a Scottish castle, sharing photos on social media. Professionally, Suriya is preparing for Jithu Madhavan’s action‑comedy Scene, slated for a November 6 theatrical release.
Context
Equal partnerships in Indian film marriages are still uncommon; Jyotika’s emphasis on mutual respect highlights a shift toward more balanced personal dynamics in the industry.
