Students from classes one to five took part in the district-level art festival competitions held at Veerapandi Saurashtra College in Theni.

Competitions

Around 300 students participated in events like drawing, dancing, fancy dress, and singing. The event was started by Samagra Shiksha assistant project officer Mohan and organized by festival coordinator Kariyan alongside the coordination team. Winners at this district level will compete in the state-level events scheduled for October 27 and 28 in Madurai.

State Level Event

Meanwhile, the school education department hosted a two-day state-level art festival youth skill competition starting Wednesday at the Periyar Maniammai Institute of Science and Technology deemed university campus near Vallam in Thanjavur district. Under the integrated school education scheme, 32 types of competitions are held annually for students in grades 9 through 12, following district rounds conducted in August across all 38 districts of Tamil Nadu.

Participation

About 3,500 students, teachers, and parents attended the government school student event on Wednesday, while roughly 2,500 participants gathered on Thursday for aided school students. District collector R. Revathi interacted with the students and praised their skills, joined by chief educational officer V. Baby and other officials.

Context

These art festivals provide a structured platform for young students in Tamil Nadu to display their creative abilities beyond regular academics. State-level competitions bring together winners from multiple districts to foster cultural talent in schools.
