Fiat has showcased a new concept vehicle in Paris called the Multiplay, which blends the design ideas of an SUV, an MPV and a pickup truck into one vehicle.

Design And Features

The Multiplay concept measures 4.5 metres in length, making it larger than the original 4-metre to 4.1-metre Multipla. The exterior features a short bonnet, a large glass area, split suicide doors, and an illuminated FIAT logo alongside LED pixel-like signatures. It also includes C-shaped bumper LEDs, pixel-shaped side turn indicators on the wheel arch claddings, geometric plus-design alloy wheels, a chunky rear bumper, an off-set illuminated FIAT logo, a split tailgate, and LED flood lights on the front ends. The interior has an oval steering yoke, a wide display combining infotainment, instrumentation and the co-driver screen, a flat dashboard with green highlights, and a fully reclining co-driver seat. The cabin is styled in orange with a green-marked right-side second-row seat called the Petsenger seat, which lacks a seat back and is meant for pets rather than humans, creating a six-plus-one seating package.

Transforming Body

The vehicle changes shape through a moving rear roof element that transforms the MPV into a pickup truck. When the roof is retracted, it opens up a large loading area with a folding tonneau cover. When the roof is deployed, the third-row seats rise automatically to create an MPV with a two-plus-two-plus-three, or six-plus-one, seating layout. In pickup truck mode, the third-row seats attach to the second row to make it a four-seater. Additionally, the spoiler rotates to reveal integrated bike mounts.

Context

Automakers frequently build concept vehicles to test bold new design ideas and gauge public interest before deciding whether to build them for regular buyers. While concepts often showcase innovative features like shifting body styles and unique seating arrangements, many of these elements do not make it into mass production. Fiat has not yet confirmed a production-spec version of the Multiplay concept.
