Hyundai Motor India has fully unveiled its new Bayon midsize sport utility vehicle, with a formal price announcement scheduled for October 26. Bookings are already open for an amount of Rs 11,000 at company dealerships and through the official website. The vehicle measures 4.2 metres in length and will sit directly between the Venue and the larger Creta in the automaker's lineup, taking on rivals like the Maruti Victoris.
Design and Cabin
The exterior adopts Hyundai's latest 'Art of Steel' design language, showing a crossover-like stance with a sculpted bonnet, flared wheel arches, and heavy black cladding paired with silver inserts. Up front, slim H-edge LED daytime running lights sit above the main headlamp housing, while the side profile features geometric alloy wheels and traditional pull-type door handles. Inside, the dual-tone cabin shares much of its layout with the Brazil-spec i20, featuring a curved panoramic panel that houses dual 12.3-inch displays for the infotainment system and instrument cluster. Physical dials, a wireless charging pad, and steering-mounted paddle shifters add practical convenience.
Technology and Powertrain
A notable highlight is that the Bayon becomes the first vehicle from the brand in India to feature a generative AI voice assistant, combining technology from Perplexity and SoundHound AI. This system handles conversational requests in English, alongside offline support for over 500 voice commands across multiple regional languages. At launch, the vehicle relies on a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 115hp and 144Nm of torque, paired with manual and CVT gearbox options. Reports also indicate that a CNG variant featuring an underbody tank may join the lineup later. Pricing is anticipated to fall between Rs 9 lakh and 14 lakh.
Context
This launch marks a major push by the automaker to capture a larger share of the highly competitive midsize vehicle segment during the festive buying period. By offering advanced digital cockpits and AI integration, manufacturers aim to attract younger buyers who prioritize connected technology alongside traditional mechanical performance. Deliveries are expected to begin soon after the market rollout.
