Citroen has revealed its new 2 CV concept at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, exactly 78 years after the original model debuted in 1948. This new concept previews a small electric hatchback that is scheduled for production in 2028 with a starting price of 15,000 Euros.
Design And Features
Measuring 3.76 metres in length, the car is shorter than the original model and aims for a total weight of under one tonne. The exterior features LED headlamps with semi-circular DRLs, a blanked-off grille, and numbers 48, 90, and 26 on the windscreen to mark key years in the nameplate's history. Inside, the car has a white and yellow theme with Tartan upholstery on bench-type seats, a single-spoke steering wheel, an 8-inch touchscreen, and a removable 3D-printed storage basket instead of a traditional centre console. It also includes a detachable 'Radioën' speaker and rabbit and tortoise symbols on the pedals.
Wheels And Range
The vehicle rides on 18-inch steel wheels featuring Michelin tyres equipped with 'universal digital twin' technology to monitor conditions and adapt to the environment. Citroen plans to use a cost-effective battery for everyday driving needs and low running costs. The final production version will sit between the Ami and C3 hatchbacks in the company's global lineup.
Context
Automakers frequently use historic nameplates to build emotional connections with buyers when launching modern electric vehicles. Retro styling combined with new battery tech helps brands stand out in a growing market for affordable urban cars.
