Large crowds of workers and supporters gathered in New Delhi as opposition leaders led a massive protest march from Mandi House toward the Supreme Court. Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav, and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy joined the march alongside Neha Bora, who walked near the front of the procession. Heavy police forces deployed along the route struggled to control the large crowds, with scenes of pushing and shoving reported during the movement. Ahead of the march, the legal team of the opposition leader arrived at the Supreme Court registry to request more time to physically file a writ petition. The protest and petition are linked to ongoing demonstrations in Delhi concerning allegations of irregularities against the Election Commission, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, and concerns over the SIR process. Meanwhile, BJP MP Anurag Thakur criticized the protest and accused the Congress party and Rahul Gandhi of trying to intimidate the judicial system. Thakur stated that the opposition seeks to pressure the courts through street demonstrations and accused them of spreading anarchy when out of power, while also referencing past elections and historical events.

Context

Protest marches and legal challenges are common methods used by political parties in India to voice grievances and contest official actions before the judiciary. The Supreme Court serves as the ultimate constitutional arbiter for disputes involving major public institutions and election-related procedures. Such political demonstrations often draw heavy security deployments to manage large crowds in the national capital.
