UPDATE - follow-up to Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG spied with twin cylinder setup: New spy images and details reveal the upcoming Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG features a twin-cylinder tank arrangement beneath the boot floor to save luggage space. The compact SUV currently has the smallest boot in its segment.
Technical Details
The CNG kit is expected to pair with the 1.2-litre MPFI turbo-petrol engine rather than the direct-injection unit because MPFI systems are simpler and cheaper to adapt. The standard petrol version of this engine produces 110 bhp and 200 Nm of torque, though official CNG output figures and mileage are awaited. The spied test vehicle featured a manual gearbox and alloy wheels, indicating that higher trims will get the CNG option alongside a dedicated petrol-CNG selector button inside the cabin.
Market Impact
CNG becomes the fourth powertrain choice for the model, joining petrol, diesel, and electric options to rival the Tata Nexon. August 2026 sales reached 8,302 units, marking a 50.37 percent year-on-year rise. The new variant aims to capture buyers seeking lower running costs during the festive season, with an expected starting price below Rs 10 lakh.
Context
Automakers in India are increasingly adopting twin-cylinder CNG setups to solve the traditional problem of losing all luggage space to a large single tank. This layout helps retain everyday practicality while offering the lower running costs that many budget-conscious buyers look for.
