US President Donald Trump has posted an artificial intelligence-generated video showing himself wrestling with the tiger responsible for killing a British man at a South Yorkshire zoo. In the clip published on Truth Social, the president chases and tackles the 200-kilogram Siberian tiger named Altai, with the pair later hugging to the song The Lion Sleeps Tonight. The footage draws on the final moments of William Chapman, who was mauled to death after entering the animal enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park on October 10.

Reactions and Background

Trump also shared actual footage of the attack on his platform, alongside a compilation video of big cats attacking humans that included a faked clip of a lion breaking through zoo glass. The online sharing of these videos drew strong condemnation from Chapman's family, who issued a statement prior to Trump's post expressing severe distress over offensive media content circulating online during their vulnerable time. South Yorkshire Police had earlier urged the public to avoid sharing the distressing footage. Chapman's family described him as a bright and engaging person who had battled severe mental illness for years and taken strong medication. He was also a former child actor who appeared in the ITV production May Contain Nuts and a BBC drama series.

Context

Public figures posting or sharing unverified and distressing digital media often sparks intense debate regarding online sensitivity and the privacy of victims. Police and local authorities frequently urge the public to refrain from circulating graphic videos of fatal incidents to protect grieving families from further trauma.
