Photo: Openverse - wikimediaThe 2026 Toyota Glanza facelift arrived in October, bringing a fresh powertrain lineup, added cabin features, and minor style updates alongside a few notable drawbacks.
What Changed
The hatchback now uses a new 1.2-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated engine built for both petrol and CNG use. Petrol fuel efficiency climbs to 23.80kpl for the manual version, up from 22.35kpl, and 24.77kpl for the AMT, up from 22.94kpl. CNG mileage reaches 33.61km/kg with the manual gearbox compared to 30.61km/kg previously, while the new CNG AMT delivers a claimed 34.47km/kg. Power figures sit at 83hp and 112Nm for petrol, and 70hp and 102Nm for CNG. Equipment updates include ventilated front seats, a Level 2 ADAS safety suite, and a ventilated wireless charger, while physical buttons remain for climate and audio controls.
Drawbacks
Pricewise, the Glanza costs between Rs 71,000 and Rs 1 lakh more than comparable petrol variants of the Baleno, and Rs 76,000 to Rs 99,000 more for CNG trims. The new engine also delivers 7hp less power in both modes than the older four-cylinder unit. Additionally, the car misses out on a rear centre armrest and a sunroof, both of which rivals like the Tata Altroz and Hyundai i20 provide.
Context
Automakers frequently update popular hatchbacks to improve fuel economy and add modern safety features like ADAS to stay competitive in the Indian market. However, mechanical sharing between partner brands often results in pricing gaps for cars that share core platforms.
