Ramayana, the upcoming Diwali‑release starring Ranbir Kapoor, has been cleared by the US Motion Picture Association with a PG‑13 rating, just three weeks before its worldwide launch. The rating, comparable to India's U/A, cites strong violence, action sequences and some bloody images, indicating it may not be suitable for children under 13. The film is set to become the biggest global release ever for an Indian movie, with distributors rolling out extensive marketing ahead of its opening. According to the IMAX website, the Indian version runs 3 hours and 15 minutes, making it one of the few Indian films to exceed three hours; trade sources say the English‑language cut could be about 2 hours and 45 minutes, with a final confirmation expected soon. Ramayana follows Kapoor’s 2023 blockbuster Animal and marks the second time in his career that a film exceeds the three‑hour mark. The project also features veteran actor Anupam Kher providing the voice of Jatayu, and the latest poster titled “The Wings of Dharma” has been unveiled.

Context

Indian cinema has increasingly aimed at global audiences, and securing a PG‑13 rating helps position Ramayana for wider US theatrical distribution while the varied runtimes reflect efforts to cater to both domestic and international viewers.
