Kia's next‑generation Sonet, codenamed QY2E, was photographed in South Korea, confirming its slated 2027 launch. Kia targets annual sales of 4.10 lakh units by 2030, counting the Sonet as a key model.

Design

The new Sonet follows Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ philosophy, mixing sharp geometric shapes with smooth organic lines. Angular window frames, a gently sloped roof, a revised C‑pillar and dual‑tone ORVMs define the side view. Squared wheel arches house 17‑inch or 18‑inch sportier alloy wheels. At the rear, a refreshed tail‑lamp cluster with an interconnected layout replaces the current design, while the boot lid and bumper receive sharper styling. The front fascia is expected to feature a taller, squarer grille, vertical LED headlight clusters and distinctive Star Map LED DRL strips, echoing the look of Kia’s EV3, EV9 and new Seltos.

Interior & Safety

Inside, a curved panoramic display links two 12.3‑inch high‑definition screens for infotainment and instruments, replacing the flat dual screens of the current model. Kia may add a two‑spoke or double‑D‑cut steering wheel and a dynamic HVAC control bar. Sustainable materials such as bio‑PU leatherette and recycled fabrics could appear, along with a dual‑tone interior theme. Safety upgrades point to full Level‑2 ADAS, building on the present Level‑1 system with six airbags, ESC, hill‑assist, VSM, blind‑view monitor, parking sensors, all‑wheel disc brakes and a 360° camera, supported by the newer K1 platform.

Powertrain

The existing engine lineup will stay at launch, while a hybrid version is slated for 2029, delivering 140 PS combined power. Kia’s Seltos and Carens will also receive hybrid options, expanding powertrain choices for consumers.

Context

The Sonet is Kia’s compact SUV aimed at emerging markets, and adding a hybrid aligns with the industry’s shift toward lower‑emission vehicles.
