Hyundai unveils Bayon SUV design sketches, details on styling and powertrain

UPDATE - follow-up to Hyundai reveals first design sketches of upcoming Bayon SUV: Hyundai has released its first exterior and interior sketches for the Bayon midsize SUV. The model follows the brand’s Art of Steel language, featuring sculpted surfaces and sharp character lines. Front styling shows a split headlamp setup with half‑split H‑shaped LED DRLs, while the main headlamp sits on a bumper that also houses a rugged skid plate; a full‑width LED strip is absent. The side profile presents a rising window line with a distinct kink at the C‑pillar, pull‑type door handles, roof rails, and flared wheel arches reminiscent of the Exter. At the rear a slim LED light band mirrors the front signature and a pronounced roof spoiler adds a crossover look; overall length is just over four metres. Inside, the cabin mirrors the new fourth‑generation i20, with a layered dashboard, twin connected screens, a central dropdown panel for HVAC controls, and physical dials and knobs. A wireless charging pad sits beneath the vertical centre console, and the steering wheel displays Hyundai’s four‑dot motif. Vertical AC vents flank the centre panel, door pads resemble the i20, and paddle shifters are mounted on the steering column. The Bayon will use the 1.5‑litre naturally aspirated petrol engine shared with the Creta, offered with manual or CVT gearboxes. A factory‑fitted CNG kit with an under‑body tank is also planned, making it Hyundai’s first model over four metres to run on CNG. Pricing is set between Rs 9 lakh and Rs 14 lakh ex‑showroom, with launch slated for the upcoming festive season, positioned between the Venue and Creta in Hyundai’s SUV range.
