One 97 Communications, the parent of Paytm, saw its shares jump more than 7% on September 16 after the government announced the first Merchant Discount Rate on UPI payments above ₹2,000. The stock rose to ₹1,856.50, a fresh 52‑week high, and is now up 96% from its 52‑week low of ₹947.10 recorded in March 2026. Analysts say the MDR opens a new revenue stream for digital‑payment firms and have lifted price targets for Paytm. Several brokerage houses upgraded their forecasts for the company following the policy change.
