India approved all 642 UK car import applications under the first tariff-rate quota phase of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement. This leaves more than 4,300 preferential-duty units unused for the current calendar year. A senior government official stated that the first round saw a weak response out of 5,000 available units. Authorities received a total of eight applications to import cars at reduced duties. Seven of those applications were found to be correct, while one applicant received a deficiency letter.
