UPDATE - follow-up to Congress, allies seeking Bangladesh-like regime change: Rajnath: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh accused the Congress and the INDIA bloc of trying to capture power through anarchy and regime change. Speaking in Lucknow, Mr. Singh stated that the sole agenda of these protests is to create unrest and instability in the country. He claimed that Congress-backed press conferences have openly claimed inspiration from Bangladesh and talked about bringing down the government.

Historical Claims And Allegations

Mr. Singh listed the Emergency, the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, and the firing on Kar Sevaks in Ayodhya as past unforgivable acts of the Congress. He alleged that the party is now committing a fourth unforgivable act by attacking constitutional institutions. Dismissing Rahul Gandhi's allegations of vote theft, the Minister noted that the Congress could not file even a single formal appeal against electoral rolls and questioned its long-term political performance across several states.

Government Achievements

Highlighting national progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mr. Singh said India is the fastest-growing major economy and a global leader in digital transactions. He noted that defence production has jumped from around ₹30,000 crore to more than ₹1.78 lakh crore, transforming the nation from an equipment importer to an exporter. He added that India has signed free trade agreements with more than two dozen countries and Prime Minister Modi has received the highest civilian honours from 35 countries.

Context

Cabinet ministers and senior government leaders frequently hold press conferences to address political opposition and present governance milestones. Such statements form a routine part of political discourse between the ruling party and the opposition alliance in India.
