Karimnagar has received its first indoor 33/11 kV substation under the Northern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Ltd jurisdiction.
Details
TGNPDCL Chairman and Managing Director K. Varun Reddy technically charged the new facility at Telangana Chowk on Tuesday. The project cost ₹6.92 crore and stands on a small land area of 484 square yards. It features two 8 MVA power transformers that run on ester-oil technology. The setup also includes SCADA systems, Intelligent Electronic Device relays, and advanced Remote Terminal Unit systems linked directly to the TGNPDCL Corporate Office control centre for remote monitoring. Mr. Reddy noted that indoor setups help solve urban land shortages while giving consumers a steady power supply, adding that another indoor substation will come up at the Karimnagar Collectorate.
Context
Power distribution companies often build compact indoor substations in crowded city areas where open land is hard to find and expensive. These modern tech upgrades help manage growing electricity use in urban centres without needing large plots of land.
