Medical services at the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad are handling significantly more people now than they did a month ago. Daily outpatient numbers have jumped from roughly 3,500 to a peak of 5,635 visitors in a single recent day.
Department Numbers
The diagnostics wing served 5,088 people on that same peak day for various tests. Inpatient admissions reached 306 individuals, while emergency ward admissions grew from around 50 daily cases to between 80 and 90 patients.
Hospital Changes
Institute officials point to better medical equipment, expert doctors, and specialized care as reasons for the heavy rush. Management adjusted outpatient counter timings from closing at 11 in the morning to staying open until 2 in the afternoon. Patients now also receive most of their test results on the very same day to speed up their care.
Context
Major government and public medical institutions often see heavy crowds because they offer affordable, advanced treatments compared to private hospitals. Extending service hours is a common step facilities take to manage high patient numbers without turning people away.
