AISA president Neha Bora was released early Saturday after being held in preventive custody.
What Happened
She had been detained under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act while heading to the ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ protest march at Connaught Place on Friday. Police said she was freed after completing required formalities. Cockroach Janata Party founder Abhijeet Dipke will be produced before the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) court later today. He was arrested on fresh breach‑of‑peace charges under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. The SEM court will decide whether he stays in jail or gets bail. Dipke was first taken into custody at the airport on October 10, when a separate breach‑of‑peace case was filed and he signed a one‑year bond not to disturb peace.
Reaction
After her release Bora accused Delhi Police and the BJP‑led centre of illegal detentions. She demanded the end of the SIR process, the resignation and imprisonment of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, and the immediate release of all detained protesters, including Dipke. Bora said she was held at Mandi House until 5 a.m., moved across the city for five hours, and taken to RK Puram police station where lawyers could not meet her. She claimed police denied her medicines despite recent illness.
Context
Police said about 150 people were detained to keep law and order and ensure smooth traffic. Security forces cordoned Central Park in Connaught Place and deployed Rapid Action Force units along with additional personnel.
