Reported by Pooja Nair (Section Editor) · The Hindu ·
Confirmed by a second source: NDTV
The Mumbai Police have directed Bollywood actor Imran Khan to leave India by October 28 for allegedly breaking rules under the Immigration and Foreigners Act.
Details of Notice
The notice comes from the Foreigners Regional Registration Office after BJP leader Kirit Somaiya filed a complaint. Officials state that Mr. Khan, who holds American citizenship and an Overseas Citizen of India card, violated the law by joining a demonstration in Mumbai on October 10 against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The notice cites Sections 7(2)(c) and 29 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025.
Context
While the Overseas Citizen of India scheme lets eligible foreign nationals of Indian origin live and work in the country, it does not grant them full Indian citizenship or voting rights. Foreign citizens living in India on OCI cards are typically expected to follow local legal guidelines regarding political activities and public protests.
