UPDATE - follow-up to Anti-CEC protest LIVE | Abhijeet Dipke to be produced before SEM Court; Neha Bora slams 'illegal' detention of protesters: Women representatives from groups like AIDWA, SFI, and KYS carried out a protest march in New Delhi on Saturday, October 17, 2026, targeting the Delhi Police headquarters over alleged sexual harassment of women protesters and the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Hindustan Times - India reports that organizations including NFIW, AIMSS, AIPWA, and ALIFA also joined this march, with protesters assembling near Gurudwara Bangla Sahib to submit a memorandum seeking accountability for alleged gender-based violence during police action since July 20. Meanwhile, the Delhi Police have registered at least 10 FIRs in connection with alleged assaults on protesters during the ongoing demonstrations in the national capital. This follows sustained pressure from citizens, activists, and media organizations across social media platforms demanding action against alleged assailants. Police stated an FIR was registered at the Connaught Place police station on October 13 based on online videos, leading to the arrest of one accused named Gaurav, while four other people were arrested following a viral video of an assault on protesters at the Kamla Market police station on October 11.

Context

These demonstrations center on intense ongoing disputes surrounding electoral roll revisions and policing methods in the national capital. Public rallies and student protests have drawn national and international attention as various political figures and civil groups clash over police actions and administrative policies.
