Tesla has upgraded the Model Y L’s powertrain, lowering its claimed 0‑100 kph sprint to 4.5 seconds, a half‑second improvement. The upgrade applies only to Model Y L units bought on or after 1 October 2026 in India. The exterior look and interior layout remain unchanged. The car is priced at Rs 61.99 lakh ex‑showroom. Tesla still lists a WLTP range of 681 km, saying real‑world mileage will depend on driving style, speed, weather and other factors. The vehicle uses an estimated 88 kWh NMC battery that drives a dual‑motor all‑wheel‑drive system. Although the company has not released official power figures, analysts estimate a combined output of about 514 hp and 590 Nm of torque, with a top speed of 201 kph. Charging details: the Model Y L can replenish up to 288 km of range in roughly 15 minutes on a Tesla Supercharger. It accepts DC fast charging up to 250 kW and AC charging up to 11 kW. Tesla is growing its Indian charging footprint, currently operating 20 Superchargers and 28 Destination Chargers, with three additional sites slated for completion by the end of 2026. In the premium electric‑vehicle segment, the Model Y L competes directly with the BMW iX1 LWB and BYD Sealion 7.
Context
The upgrade shows Tesla’s push to keep the Model Y competitive in India’s fast‑growing premium EV market, where range, fast‑charging capability and price are key buying factors.
