UPDATE - follow-up to Tesla Model Y L powertrain upgrades bring performance boost: The Tesla Model Y L now accelerates from zero to 100 kph in a claimed 4.5 seconds, which is 0.5 seconds faster than before. This change applies to vehicles bought on or after October 1, 2026, in India. The car's price remains at Rs 61.99 lakh, ex-showroom. The outside design and inside features have no changes.

Specifications and Range

The car keeps the same WLTP range of 681 kilometers as before. It uses an estimated 88kWh NMC battery pack with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup. Tesla has not shared official powertrain details, but the car has an estimated output of 514hp and 590Nm. The top speed is a claimed 201kph. Real-world range changes based on speed, weather, driving conditions, and other factors.

Charging and Network

The Model Y L can add up to 288km of range in 15 minutes at a Tesla Supercharger. It supports DC fast charging up to 250kW and AC charging up to 11kW. Tesla currently has 20 Superchargers and 28 Destination Chargers in India, with three more sites planned by the end of 2026. In the luxury electric vehicle market, it competes with the BMW iX1 LWB and BYD Sealion 7.

Context

Automakers often update powertrain software and components to improve performance metrics without changing the overall vehicle design. Expanding charging infrastructure is a key part of supporting electric vehicle adoption in new markets.
