The Bengaluru City Police Commissionerate gave out cash awards totaling 58.30 lakh rupees to 274 children of police officers and staff for the academic year 2025-26.

Award Distribution

Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh handed over the awards at an event held at the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner's Office on Wednesday. Out of all the beneficiaries, 69 students who scored 90 percent or more in their SSLC exams and 74 students who hit the same high mark in their PU exams got 10,000 rupees each. The other 131 beneficiaries are students studying higher education in fields like bachelor's degrees, master's degrees, engineering, law, and medicine. The money for these awards came straight from the Police Welfare Fund to support police families and push students to do better in their studies.

Award Amounts

The cash given out changed based on the course each student is taking. Students doing bachelor's degrees got 20,000 rupees each, and those in master's programs received 30,000 rupees. Engineering and law students got 40,000 rupees each, while medical students took home 50,000 rupees. The scheme also covered students studying advanced medical courses like MD, MS, and MDS.

Context

Police welfare funds are common setups in police departments across India that use pooled resources to help staff and their families with welfare, health, and education needs. Police personnel often face tough duty hours and high stress, making institutional support for their children's education an important way to help families plan for the future.
