Fashion designer Jishad Shamsudeen has claimed that three distinct looks he designed for actor Mohanlal were removed entirely from the Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer 2, which released in theatres on 15 October. He also said that a scene featuring the Malayalam actor in the trailer was trimmed down to just two seconds. Shamsudeen, who works as Mohanlal's personal stylist and previously designed the denim jacket worn by Salman Khan in the song "Heeriye" from Race 3, posted his statement on Instagram on the film's release date.
Cast And Roles
In the sequel, Mohanlal reprises his role as Mathew, a flamboyant underworld kingpin and a close ally of Rajinikanth's character, Muthuvel Pandian, also known as Tiger. The film features a star-studded cast including Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, Jackie Shroff, and S J Suryah. It also includes a cameo by Hrithik Roshan as Roddy, a character with a two-decade history with Tiger Muthuvel.
Designer's Reaction
Shamsudeen shared photographs of the unused looks and stated that trimming scenes involving a superstar like Mohanlal was unnecessary. He declared that he will not be part of any future installment if the franchise continues, saying he stands for the fans rather than profits or stardom.
Context
Large multi-starrer films often face editorial cuts during post-production to manage runtime and pacing, which can sometimes lead to friction between creators and production teams. Costume designers and stylists play a vital role in building a character's visual identity on screen, making such creative disagreements a visible part of modern film promotions.
