Hundreds of dogs and cats drew large crowds, especially youth and women, at the Dasara Pet Show held at J.K. Grounds in Mysuru on Sunday. The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services organized the event, which featured around 702 dogs and 52 cats brought by pet owners from Mysuru and nearby districts like Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Kodagu and Hassan.
Breeds and Awards
Organizers listed 55 different dog breeds, and awards were given out in various categories, with five dogs making the shortlist for the Best in Show championship. Visitors saw breeds like German Shepherds, Lhasa Apsos, Beagles, Shih Tzus, Dobermans, Poodles, Great Danes, Rajapalayams and Pugs in special enclosures, and even non-recognized breeds were allowed to join. Participation went up by 20% compared to last year. Young pet lovers managed two or three dogs at once, and many visitors stopped to take pictures at the event photo booth. Sushmitha, a Mysuru pet lover who keeps seven dogs at home, shared that she loved spending time with dogs because of their loyalty, while high school student Chethan from K.G. Koppal brought his own pet to the show.
