The India Meteorological Department said isolated heavy rain and light‑to‑moderate showers will affect coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema until October 21 because an upper‑air cyclonic circulation persists over the west‑central Bay of Bengal. A trough stretching from Lakshadweep to the west‑central Bay of Bengal across Karnataka and southern Andhra Pradesh is feeding the system. The department expects light to moderate showers on Monday in Polavaram, Dr B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, West Godavari, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Annamayya and Chittoor districts. Thunderstorms may also appear at isolated spots in the same coastal and Rayalaseema areas. Strong winds reaching up to 50 kmph are possible at isolated locations along the coast and in Rayalaseema. On Sunday an orange alert was in force until noon, yet only moderate rain fell statewide. Between 08:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. the highest recorded amount was 36 mm in Korisapadu, Prakasam district, followed by 30.34 mm in Venkatagiri, Tirupati; 26.97 mm in Tangutoor, Nandyal; 26.77 mm in Chintha Kommadinne, YSR Kadapa; 26.46 mm in Jagadurthi, Nandyal; 26.23 mm in Madhur, Nandyal; 22 mm in Dabbagunta, SPSR Nellore; and 21.11 mm in Pusulur, Nandyal. ## Context The region regularly experiences such rain patterns when cyclonic circulations develop over the Bay of Bengal, bringing seasonal showers that help agriculture but can also cause localized flooding.
