Several Iranian women ran in a race event in Tehran without wearing a hijab. They did this to defy the strict rules that force women to cover their heads in public.
Background
Not wearing a headscarf has become more common on the streets of Iran and in some public places. This shift started after the 2022 protests called Woman, Life, Freedom. Those protests began after Mahsa Jina Amini died while she was in the custody of the morality police. Even though many women now go out with uncovered hair, the law in Iran still makes the hijab compulsory.
