Unveiling

Tesla has announced that its second‑generation Roadster will begin production in 2028. The model replaces the original Roadster, discontinued in 2012, and features a sharper, wedge‑shaped body that echoes the look of the Cybertruck.

Design

Slim‑spoke wheels reinforce the clean lines; the rear sports a full‑width LED tail‑light and a prominent wing. Tesla says the styling draws from the SR‑71 Blackbird and the F‑35 fighter jet. Inside, a yoke‑style steering wheel with physical controls sits beside a central touchscreen. Seats are fixed and built from carbon fibre, magnesium and titanium to keep weight low. An under‑body suction fan adds extra grip.

Packages

The car will be offered in a standard Performance trim plus Thrust and Rocket packages. Bookings for the Performance trim and Thrust package are open in India at Rs 5 lakh; the Rocket package is available only by invitation. The Thrust package adds four rear‑mounted thrusters that push pressurised cold air through nozzles. The Rocket package adds ten more thrusters, enabling airborne manoeuvres.

Context

The Roadster extends Tesla’s push into high‑performance electric sports cars, and the air‑thruster system shows the brand’s focus on novel aerodynamic solutions.
