Representative image · PexelsStellantis India has bought the remaining stake of Hindustan Motor Finance Corporation Ltd., giving it full ownership of the Stellantis Automobiles India Private Limited joint venture and the car‑assembly plant at Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu. The purchase, made through foreign direct investment, ends the 2017 partnership between Stellantis and the CK Birla Group that introduced Citroën to India. The Thiruvallur facility builds four Citroën models – the C3, eC3, Aircross and Basalt – and ships fully built units to eight export markets across four continents. Stellantis now plans to lift annual output by more than 160%, moving from an expected 16,000 vehicles in 2026 to over 43,000 by 2028. The expansion will more than double the plant’s direct workforce, which currently stands at about 610 employees. CEO and Managing Director Shailesh Hazela said India remains a key pillar of Stellantis’ growth strategy and noted that the group has invested close to INR 11,000 crore in the country to build a strong manufacturing, engineering and export ecosystem. He added that full control will enable tighter integration and faster response to customer needs. A photo released with the announcement showed N Chandrasekaran on the left and Noel Tata, chairman of Tata Trusts, on the right.
