Father Who Lost Three Children Explains Decision to Forgive Their Mother

Patrick Clancy, whose three children were killed by his then-wife Lindsay Clancy, says he chose to forgive her so he would not be consumed by anger for the rest of his life. In a recent interview, Patrick stated that severe mental illness was responsible for the deaths, rejecting media labels that called her a monster. Prosecutors alleged that Lindsay strangled their children, Cora, Dawson, and Callan, at their home in Duxbury, Massachusetts, before jumping from a second-floor window and surviving with paralysis. During the trial, her lawyers argued she was not legally responsible due to postpartum psychosis, a rare condition involving severe mania and depression after childbirth. Patrick testified about her worsening mental health and stated that he did the absolute best he could with the resources he had at the time. The trial recently ended in a mistrial after the jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict. In the aftermath of the tragedy, Patrick faced harsh online attacks and false blame from tabloids, which led him to relocate from Duxbury to New York City in search of privacy. He has since remarried and is looking forward to telling his future children about their late brothers and sister. A new court hearing in the unresolved case is scheduled for September 29 at Plymouth Superior Court.
