Acura will grow its US lineup from four vehicles to six by adding a full‑size three‑row SUV and an off‑road model. The off‑roader, internally called the "Acura Passport," will be built on the rugged TrailSport version of the Honda Passport and will feature unique sheetmetal, a more upright front end, knobbier tires and distinct hood styling. The new three‑row SUV is reported to be about six inches longer than the current MDX and will sit opposite the Lexus TX in the market. Both SUVs will share a next‑generation MDX platform with a Honda counterpart, and dealers say the larger model will have an upright design reminiscent of a Range Rover, with broad shoulder lines, a spacious cabin and a front light bar. The Acura Passport is slated for sale in mid‑2028, while production of the larger three‑row SUV is expected to start in the third quarter of 2029, likely reaching showrooms in early 2030. A next‑generation RDX will debut in 2028 with Acura’s new design language and Honda’s updated hybrid system, and special editions of the ADX, MDX and a limited‑edition Integra Type S were also shown to dealers.

Context

Acura’s move targets higher‑volume SUV segments that dominate U.S. sales, aiming to boost its market share by offering vehicles that compete directly with popular models from rivals such as Lexus and Range Rover.
