The 2026 Hero Xtreme 160R arrives with a third-generation upgrade featuring a design overhaul, new variants, and an extensive list of additions tested during a first-ride review in Jaipur.
Design and Engine
The bike takes design inspiration from the 250R with sharp body panels and LED DRLs. It uses the same 163.2cc engine that generates 17.1 horsepower at 8,750 rpm and 14.6 Nm of peak torque at 6,500 rpm. This power output sits 0.2 horsepower higher than the previous Combat Edition, arriving 250 rpm higher in the rev range, with a claimed zero to sixty kph acceleration time of 4.4 seconds.
Performance and Handling
The new ride-by-wire system introduces Rain, Road, and Sport riding modes, alongside cruise control and a panic brake alert system. However, the throttle response in Sport mode proves snatchy in stop-go traffic, and Road mode feels inconsistent. Out on the highway, the bike cruises smoothly between 85 and 90 kph, though the engine feels stressed above 95 kph. Handling remains nimble with good grip from the tyres, while suspension absorbs minor bumps well. The front brake requires a halfway pull before a strong bite develops.
Pricing and Variants
Three variants make up the lineup. The Standard model costs Rs 1.27 lakh ex-showroom, features a mechanical throttle, colour LCD screen, single-channel ABS, disc brakes at both ends, and a telescopic front fork, arriving in the first quarter of next year. The Pro variant costs Rs 1.37 lakh ex-showroom with a ride-by-wire throttle, riding modes, dual-channel ABS, USD fork, and cruise control. The top-spec Carbon variant costs Rs 1.41 lakh ex-showroom and adds a TFT console, illuminated switches, adjustable levers, and coloured wheels.
Context
Motorcycle manufacturers often update entry-level sport bikes with advanced tech features like ride-by-wire and TFT screens to attract younger buyers looking for premium styling. Evaluating these new systems helps riders understand how electronic aids perform in everyday Indian traffic conditions compared to traditional mechanical setups.
