Kawasaki has launched the new Z300 in India as the entry-level model for its Z lineup, priced at Rs 3.24 lakh ex-showroom. The motorcycle shares its platform and tubular frame with the Ninja 300, while taking visual inspiration from the larger Z900.
Performance And Design
The bike runs on a 296cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine that puts out 39 horsepower at 11,000 rpm and 26.1 Nm of torque at 10,000 rpm, linked to a 6-speed gearbox. It follows a Sugomi streetfighter design style with a wide, upright single-piece handlebar. Buyers can pick between two colour choices: Lime Green and Black.
Features And Hardware
For stopping power and safety, the motorcycle comes with dual-channel ABS, a 290mm petal disc brake at the front, and a 220mm petal disc brake at the rear. It uses a 37mm right way up telescopic front fork, a preload-adjustable rear monoshock, and 17-inch alloy wheels. Equipment includes a reverse LCD instrument cluster similar to the one found on the Ninja 500.
Market Rivals
In the Indian market, the Z300 competes against single-cylinder rivals like the KTM 390 Duke priced at Rs 2.85 lakh and the TVS Apache RTR 310 priced at Rs 2.30 lakh. While those competitors offer more performance-focused setups, the Kawasaki aims to stand out with its twin-cylinder engine and brand badge.
Context
Entry-level motorcycles with multi-cylinder engines are rare in India due to high production costs compared to single-cylinder models. Brands often use existing platforms from fully-faired sports bikes to build naked streetfighter models for cost efficiency.
