The Kawasaki Z300 enters the market as the brand new entry-level street naked motorcycle, sitting at the bottom of the Z lineup with styling cues taken from the larger Z900 model. Built on the same platform as the Ninja 300, the bike brings a parallel-twin engine to a segment that is mostly dominated by single-cylinder motorcycles.
Engine And Features
The Z300 uses a 296cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine that makes 39hp and 26.1Nm of torque, connected to a six-speed gearbox. This engine is shared with the Ninja 300, but the Z300 has an upright riding position due to a wide, single-piece handlebar. The bike also gets a new instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity. The launch livestream showed more than one type of display, including a negative LCD unit and a possible TFT screen with a white backlight, which suggests the bike may come in multiple variants.
Competition And Launch
The bike will be available in two launch colours, Green and Black. Its main market rivals are the KTM 390 Duke and the TVS Apache RTR 310. While those rivals use single-cylinder engines with performance-focused chassis setups, the Z300 relies on its parallel-twin layout to offer an edge in engine smoothness. Kawasaki planned a full price and specification reveal for October 20, but official prices are not yet confirmed on the Kawasaki India website. The Ninja 300 currently sells for Rs 3.34 lakh ex-showroom in India, and industry expectations put the Z300 price between Rs 3.20 lakh and Rs 3.50 lakh ex-showroom.
Context
Street naked motorcycles are designed for everyday city riding with comfortable seating positions rather than aggressive track racing. Adding a twin-cylinder engine to a lower-displacement segment gives riders a smoother ride compared to the vibrations often found in single-cylinder bikes of a similar size.
